Atopic dermatitis is a complex, persistent inflammatory skin disease characterized by pruritus, xerosis, and eczematous lesions. Estimates suggest that as many as 34% of adult patients with atopic dermatitis have severe disease, which is often accompanied by a multidimensional burden comprising sleep disturbances, diminished mental health, and reduced quality of life. Allergic comorbidities are common, and the burden of symptoms can be profound. An integrated, multidisciplinary approach to care is often necessary.
