Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. According to the International Agency for Research on Cancer, more than 2 million new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in 2018. Human epidermal growth factor receptor 2–positive (HER2+) breast cancer accounts for up to 15% to 20% of all breast cancers. Patients with HER2+ breast cancer have a worse prognosis than patients with some other types of breast cancer, but new targeted treatments have significantly improved survival rates.
