Most thyroid cancers are papillary carcinomas, with follicular carcinomas, hürthle cell carcinomas, medullary thyroid carcinomas, and anaplastic carcinomas accounting for far fewer cases. Primary thyroid lymphomas and primary thyroid sarcomas are both rare.

Thyroid cancer has been among the more rapidly increasing cancers; however, this is largely due to increased detection. More sensitive diagnostic procedures are now able to identify incidental small thyroid nodules that may have been previously missed. Recent focus has shifted to questions about thyroid cancer and its relationship to COVID-19.

Do you know which patients are at increased risk for thyroid cancer, as well as what to look for during presentation and best practices for diagnosis and treatment? Test your knowledge with this quick quiz.
