Insomnia is a prevalent sleep disorder characterized by difficulty with sleep initiation, maintenance, consolidation, or quality despite adequate time and opportunity for sleep. It must result in some form of daytime impairment. Identifying and treating insomnia is important because it is predictive of a number of health issues, such as depression, anxiety, substance dependence, and suicide.
