As the world's population ages, osteoporosis is emerging as a public health problem. Currently, it is estimated that more than 200 million people worldwide have osteoporosis. According to a World Health Organization (WHO) scientific group report, in North and South America and Europe, osteoporotic fractures account for 2.8 million disabilities. In developed countries, the lifetime risk for a wrist, hip, or vertebral fracture is estimated to be 30%-40%. Fractures and postural changes can have a significant impact on individuals' quality of life. Preventive strategies and treatments can help to reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with this disease.
