Two major groups of asthma phenotypes have been identified on the basis of the involved inflammatory pathway: the Th2-high and Th2-low phenotypes. Severe obesity-related asthma is considered a Th2-low phenotype, as is neutrophilic asthma. Early-onset allergic asthma and late-onset eosinophilic asthma are associated with Th2-high–related inflammation.
