Female breast cancer is the leading cause of global cancer incidence, with an estimated 2.3 million new cases in 2020. It is also the fifth leading cause of cancer mortality in the world, with 685,000 deaths. Progress in earlier detection and improved treatment modalities are reducing breast cancer death rates in countries that are able to implement them. The treatment of breast cancer can include surgery, radiation therapy, adjuvant hormone and/or chemotherapy, and targeted agents.
