The following are among the recommendations from the ACG released in January 2021:
Serologic testing to rule out celiac disease is routinely recommended in patients with IBS and diarrhea symptoms.
Testing for food allergies and food sensitivities is not recommended in patients with IBS unless reproducible symptoms concerning for a food allergy are noted.
Routine colonoscopy is not recommended in patients with IBS symptoms who are younger than 45 years without warning signs.
The ACG recommends against routine stool testing for enteric pathogens in all patients with IBS.
