Acetaminophen is one of the most commonly used oral analgesic and antipyretic agents, with as many as 23% of US adults using an acetaminophen-containing medicine each week. It has an excellent safety profile when administered in proper therapeutic doses. Recent studies have shown that its use does not increase risk of mortality in patients with COVID-19. However, hepatotoxicity can occur after overdose or when misused in at-risk populations. In some regions, acetaminophen toxicity has replaced viral hepatitis as the most common cause of acute liver failure.

Are you familiar with key clinical aspects and recommendations for the use of acetaminophen? Are you able to recognize and treat patients with acetaminophen toxicity? Refresh and test your knowledge with this quick quiz.
