Clinical guidelines for the management of TRD recommend that psychotherapy be provided only in combination with antidepressant therapy for individuals with severe depression. Studies have shown the addition of psychotherapy to pharmacologic treatment may produce improvements in depressive symptoms, as well as response and remission rates.
