Thyroid hormone increases metabolic clearance of glucocorticoids. Starting thyroid hormone therapy before initiating glucocorticoid therapy may precipitate an acute adrenal crisis in patients with adrenal insufficiency. Treat patients with adrenal insufficiency with replacement glucocorticoids before starting treatment with thyroid hormone.
