Many patients with moderate iron deficiency anemia develop pagophagia, or compulsive ice chewing; alternatively, fewer patients present with a craving for cold celery or other cold vegetables instead.
Some patients with chronic iron deficiency anemia experience cold intolerance, which results in vasomotor disturbances, neurologic pain, or numbness and tingling.
