The AIMS is recommended in patients who are receiving treatment with substances that may cause TD, such as antipsychotics. According to the American Psychiatric Association guidelines, it should be administered at baseline before the institution of pharmacotherapy to document any movements present, and then at every visit during the course of treatment.
