The arrhythmia in individuals with holiday heart syndrome typically converts to normal sinus rhythm within 24 hours. Although most (> 90%) of cases of alcohol-related AF self-terminate, approximately 20%-30% recur within 12 months. Moderate to heavy alcohol consumption is also a strong risk factor for progression from paroxysmal AF to persistent AF.
