Anticoagulation use is complicated by geriatric syndromes in older patients. Geriatric syndromes are associated with a higher risk for ischemic stroke. However, anticoagulation therapy increases the risk for anticoagulant-associated hemorrhage and can trigger nuisance bleeding.
