Chronic migraine is a clearly defined subtype of migraine affecting approximately 2.2% of the general population. It usually develops from episodic migraine at a conversion rate of about 3% a year. The development of chronic migraine has been associated with both nonmodifiable and modifiable risk factors and requires global management aimed at reducing the frequency of the attacks, lowering the associated disability, and improving patient quality of life.
