Coadministration of remdesivir with chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine is not recommended. On the basis of in vitro data, chloroquine demonstrated an antagonistic effect on the intracellular metabolic activation and antiviral activity of remdesivir. An EUA for chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine was issued for by the FDA in March 2020 and was revoked in June 2020, owing to safety concerns and lack of efficacy demonstrated in controlled clinical trials.
