Anemia affects up to 68% of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is associated with an increased risk for hospitalization, cognitive impairment, cardiovascular disease, and increased morbidity and mortality. The low erythropoietic activity that characterizes anemia in patients with CKD is often seen as a gradual decline in hemoglobin and glomerular filtration rate. As kidney function deteriorates, the prevalence of anemia increases, emphasizing the importance of patient monitoring and timely interventions.
