The CDC does not routinely recommend HPV vaccination for individuals aged 27-45 years. Shared clinical decision-making is suggested in determining whether vaccination is beneficial in that age range. However, those who do decide to get vaccinated will need to receive three doses at 0, 2, and 6 months. The vaccine is most beneficial when administered before HPV exposure, which is why the CDC recommends HPV vaccination beginning at age 11 or 12 years; however, the series can be initiated at age 9 years. The HPV vaccine does not prevent progression of HPV infection to disease, reduce clearance time, or help treat HPV-related disease.
