Gastric cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide, with 1.09 million new cases and 769,000 deaths reported in 2020. Approximately one third of patients present with metastatic disease. Gastric cancer remains difficult to cure, primarily because early gastric cancer has no associated symptoms and by the time most patients present with symptoms, it is with advanced disease. As a result, recurrence and spread are common.
