Type 2 diabetes is a complex metabolic disorder leading to increased morbidity, mortality, and health-related costs. Dyslipidemia is a common condition coexisting with type 2 diabetes and a clear risk factor for the development of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). The combination of hyperglycemia and dyslipidemia produces an enhanced environment within the circulation, which may accelerate the progression to atherosclerosis. Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular complications is essential to the management of type 2 diabetes.
