Bremelanotide is indicated for treatment of premenopausal women with acquired, generalized HSDD, which is marked by reduced sexual desire that causes distress or interpersonal difficulty. Acquired HSDD develops in a patient who previously had no problems with sexual desire; generalized HSDD occurs regardless of the type of situation, stimulation, or partner. In contrast, situational HSDD occurs due to problems with the relationship, a coexisting medical or psychiatric condition, or effects of a medication or drug substance.
