Primary prevention of cardiovascular disease with BP-lowering medications is recommended for adults with an estimated 10-year ASCVD risk of ≥ 10% and an average BP of ≥ 130/80 mm Hg.
A BP target of < 130/80 mm Hg is recommended for adults with confirmed hypertension and a 10-year ASCVD event risk of ≥ 10%.
Additionally, treatment to a BP goal of < 130/80 mm Hg is recommended for adults with hypertension and chronic kidney disease, regardless of 10-year ASCVD risk score.
In adults with type 2 diabetes and hypertension, antihypertensive drug therapy should be administered to those who have a BP of ≥ 130/80 mm Hg, with the goal being to reduce BP to < 130/80 mm Hg.
