Guidelines from the ACS recommend beginning routine CRC screening in individuals at 45 years of age. The increasing incidence of early-onset CRC (at < 50 years of age) prompted the ACS as well as the National Comprehensive Cancer Network to lower the age for starting screening from 50 to 45 years in average-risk individuals. Detecting and removing CRC lesions at an earlier stage during CRC screening are associated with reduced incidence and mortality.
