Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disorder typically involving the knees, hips, and hand joints and affects approximately 240 million people worldwide. Knee OA is characterized by chronic pain and functional disability leading to substantial cost and mortality. The incidence of OA increases with age and is often associated with comorbidities; nearly 30% of individuals > 45 years of age have evidence of knee OA.
