Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic, progressive, degenerative disease of the articular cartilage affecting approximately 13% of elderly populations. Knee OA is a major cause of chronic pain and disability leading to substantial cost, social burden, and mortality. Treatment aims to improve daily function by decreasing pain, preserving mobility, and reducing disability. Total knee arthroplasty, although a definitive treatment, is associated with numerous risks. Injectable therapies may provide an effective, less invasive alternative to the management of knee OA.
