According to the 2019 ASH guidelines , adults with newly diagnosed ITP should receive corticosteroids alone, rather than rituximab and corticosteroids. However, if a high value is placed on possible remission over potential adverse events associated with rituximab, an initial course of corticosteroids with rituximab may be used. Eltrombopag and romiplostim are generally reserved for adults with ITP who are corticosteroid-dependent or unresponsive to corticosteroids.
