For effective management of HPP, a multidisciplinary team is essential, per Fenn and colleagues. Pediatricians are needed to monitor growth and development. Optimal dental care is important for oral hygiene and to reduce the risk for permanent tooth loss owing to periodontal involvement. Orthopedic surgeons and pain management physicians are often involved in fractures and pain. Physical and occupational therapy may be needed to address mobility and functional limitations. In addition, genetic counseling is indicated to help patients and families understand the diagnosis, inheritance, and risk for future pregnancies.
The treatment approach to childhood HPP is based on the severity of symptoms.
