The 2017 update to the ACC/AHA guidelines eliminated the classification of prehypertension, which included systolic pressure of 120-139 mm Hg and diastolic pressure of 80-89 mm Hg. According to current guidelines, elevated BP is systolic pressure of 120-129 mm Hg and diastolic pressure < 80 mm Hg. Stage 1 hypertension is systolic pressure of 130-139 mm Hg or a diastolic pressure of 80-89 mm Hg. Stage 2 hypertension is systolic pressure of at least 140 mm Hg or diastolic pressure of at least 90 mm Hg.
