Traditional and nontraditional risk factors exist for cardiovascular disease including heart failure in CKD. Traditional risk factors include hypertension, smoking, dyslipidemia, and hyperglycemia. According to Jankowski and colleagues, nontraditional risk factors include inflammation, vascular calcifications, and increased proteinuria.
