Prednisone is indicated for the treatment of autoimmune hepatitis, alone or in combination with azathioprine. Although patients with diverticulitis can take prednisone, caution is indicated, and the patient should be monitored. Prednisone has been used in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, as opposed to irritable bowel syndrome. Herpes simplex keratitis is among the contraindications for prednisone use.
