According to 2020 American Thoracic Society clinical practice guidelines, LABA/LAMA combination therapy is recommended for patients with COPD who complain of dyspnea or exercise intolerance. The combination therapy is recommended over LABA or LAMA monotherapy.
ICS are not recommended as monotherapy, according to Agusti and colleagues. The TORCH trial demonstrated that the addition of ICS to a LABA was more beneficial than ICS monotherapy, for example.
