Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease whose hallmark feature is a persistent symmetric polyarthritis (synovitis) that affects the hands and feet. No test results are pathognomonic. The diagnosis is made by using a combination of clinical, laboratory, and imaging features. Because various infectious and rheumatologic diseases produce signs and symptoms that are similar to those of RA, differentiation can be difficult, especially in early stages. Improper diagnosis can have serious negative consequences. Can you tell RA from its mimics? Test your abilities with this short quiz.
