According to the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN), adenocarcinomas constitute > 95% of gastric cancers. They are classified according to Lauren's histopathologic criteria into diffuse (undifferentiated) and intestinal (well-differentiated) types. While intestinal gastric cancer is most often associated with related environmental factors such as infection, diet, and lifestyle, diffuse gastric cancer is often associated with hereditary conditions.
