TTR V30M is the most geographically widespread TTR variant. This variant is found throughout Europe, North and South America and Japan.

TTR V122I originated in West Africa and is more common in those of African ancestry. In 1997, it was reported that TTR V1221 was carried by 3.9% of African Americans in the United States and ≥ 5% of the population in some areas of West Africa.

TTR T60A originated in northwest Ireland and is mainly found in Irish and Irish American persons.
