According to the CDC 2022 Special Report: COVID-19 – U.S. Impact on Antimicrobial Resistance, hospital-acquired infections and deaths among seven pathogens increased at least 15% from 2019 to 2020, with some pathogens increasing more than others, and a few decreasing. Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter had a 78% increase, whereas vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus and methicillin-resistant S aureus increased 14% and 13%, respectively. Hospital-acquired infections caused by drug-resistant M tuberculosis dropped.
