Immunotherapy research began more than 100 years ago with the work of William B. Coley. Coley achieved cancer remission by injecting toxins into patients. Stem cells from mice were first used in the 1960s. Modern nanotechnology began in 1981 after technology allowed certain processes to begin, although arguably Richard Feynman first described it in 1959. CRISPR, which stands for "clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeat," fixes flaws in DNA and was discovered in 1987. DNA itself was discovered in 1954.
