A recent randomized clinical trial revealed that 12 weeks of HIIT, MICT, and NW had positive effects on depression, functional capabilities, and quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease. However, NW, as measured by a 6-minute walk test distance, increased functional capacity more than did MICT or HIIT. These same results were found in a follow-up at 26 weeks. The researchers emphasized that the results support the idea that the best exercise is the one that the person is willing to do. Physical activity and exercise improve functional capacity no matter how they are measured.
