A treatment for constipation, psyllium bulk builders can cause flatulence and abdominal cramping. They may actually induce further constipation in 1%-10% of cases. Metoclopramide and domperidone are dopamine antagonists that can decrease fullness and bloating in gastroparesis. Octreotide is a somatostatin analog known to reduce breath hydrogen after glucose intake in patients with intestinal pseudo-obstruction and bacterial overgrowth who have scleroderma.
