Initial MCL workup should be whole body PET/CT scans, per NCCN guidelines. In particular, ESMO guidelines recommend PET/CT scans for the rare patients who present with limited-stage disease prior to local radiotherapy.
According to NCCN guidelines, endoscopy and colonoscopy are not recommended for routine workup, but in addition to bone marrow biopsy, these tests are used for confirmation of stage I/II disease and assessment of response to initial therapy.
MRI is only appropriate in selected cases, for example, when central nervous system involvement is suspected.
Chest radiography typically does not play a role in MCL workup.
Further, in patients who may be considered for transplant or treatment with anthracyclines, electrocardiogram is recommended.
