Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is derived from a subset of naive pregerminal center B cells localized in primary follicles or in the mantle region of secondary follicles. MCL is recognized by the World Health Organization as a distinct clinicopathologic entity, and further classifications have identified several subtypes. It is a relatively uncommon type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma disease representing 3%-10% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas in Western countries, and incidence has been increasing worldwide. According to the European Society for Medical Oncology, it is more common in men than in women (with a 3:1 ratio), and the median age of diagnosis is 68 years.
