Emtricitabine/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, sometimes called F/TDF, is an FDA-approved oral medication for all adults and adolescents with any risk for HIV acquisition. It should not be used for PrEP in people with reduced renal function (ie, creatinine clearance < 60 mL/min). It also has a small, reversible risk for decreased bone mineral density.
