Albuminuria measured as urine ACR ≥ 30 mg/g is a marker of kidney damage that may be present in stage I or II when the GFR is still normal. Clinical manifestations usually become apparent in stages IV-V with protein-energy malnutrition, loss of lean body mass, and peripheral edema.
