Corticosteroids such as dexamethasone are recommended in patients with confirmed COVID-19 who require mechanical ventilation or supplemental oxygen without mechanical ventilation. Corticosteroid may be harmful in patients who do not require respiratory support. Corticosteroids prescribed specifically for the treatment of COVID-19 should be discontinued after 10 days or at discharge, whichever comes sooner. Patients should continue any inhaled or oral corticosteroids prescribed for an underlying condition prior to their COVID-19 diagnosis.
