Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be a leading cause of mortality and morbidity worldwide. Risk factors are major drivers of CVD, and modifiable risk factors include high systolic blood pressure, high fasting plasma glucose, high body mass index, smoking, low physical activity, and diet. However, some debate continues among elevated triglycerides as an independent risk factor for CVD, although evidence of elevated triglycerides as a cardiovascular (CV) risk factor has been accumulating since the late 1980s.

How familiar are you with triglycerides and their role as an independent risk factor for CVD? Test your knowledge with this quick quiz.
