Combining phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors (eg, sildenafil, tadalafil) and oral nitrate medications is contraindicated due to risk for hypotension and other severe adverse cardiac events. However, some recent data suggest that coprescribing these drugs may be safe in certain specific situations.
