Reinfection increases the risk of developing long COVID. However, there is evidence that long COVID is less common with the Omicron subvariants than with previously dominant strains, and reinfection would therefore confer less risk. In addition, the risk for long COVID could be reduced if individuals had received vaccination before SARS-CoV-2 infection.
