A 38-year-old premenopausal nulliparous woman in Europe is diagnosed with de novo stage IV invasive ductal carcinoma of the right breast with multiple liver, bone and axillary lymph node metastases. Immunohistochemical examinations of the tumour cells showed positive results for hormone receptor (HR) and weak membrane staining of human epidermal growth factor 2 [HER2] (0 score). The patient has an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status of 1 and no comorbidities. She presents today to discuss the selection of first-line systemic therapy.
