Concurrent nonselective monoamine oxidase inhibitors are contraindicated for dextromethorphan because of the risk for serotonin syndrome. Dextromethorphan is in category C for pregnancy, to be used with caution if benefits outweigh risks. No dose adjustment is needed for older patients.
