The management of advanced-stage melanoma has changed significantly in recent years, with chemotherapy used less frequently in favor of more efficacious novel drugs. Biologic therapies have become increasingly available, as well as BRAF and MEK inhibitors. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) for the treatment of advanced melanoma can be used as monotherapies or via a combination approach. The decision-making factors guiding appropriate treatment options in stage IV metastatic melanoma include mutation pattern, performance status, tumor load, the presence of brain metastases, and progression pattern.
